Bowen Chung, M.D., M.P.H., is a child psychiatrist and a research fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA. Dr. Chung has a background in film production, and sits on the Board for Visual Communications, an Academy Award-winning Asian American nonprofit media organization. Dr. Chung is interested in the use of media as an empowerment tool for children and adults from diverse communities around health related issues, especially mental health and the associated stigma. He is the academic co-lead of MMC's collaborative work with Healthy African American Families and is evaluating the use of the arts to engage communities of color in discussing depression and treatment for depression. He also is the director of two new MMC projects to use photovoice to capture community members' impressions of environmental influences on mood, and to understand health and mental health outcomes of children. Dr. Chung writes the "Ask the Doctor" column for Dispatches magazine, which is distributed to all high school students in the Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York public school districts.
