The Mid-America Coalition on Health Care (MACHC)
The Mid-America Coalition on Health Care was founded in 1978 by the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City as the vehicle by which large self-insured employers could address health care issues. It is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. In 1992 the Civic Council affirmed a collaborative approach to addressing health care delivery issues, focusing on projects where the parties' interests overlap. The Mid-America Coalition on Health Care is the principal organization in the region bringing major employers, physicians and medical societies, health plans, hospitals, unions, pharmaceutical companies and bi-state governmental units together to address the rising costs of health care and improving the health levels of employees in the Kansas City area. This community-wide membership base enables the Coalition to draw upon the widest possible range of expertise from the region to carry out its projects.
