Jorge Avila
Jorge has been with the center since May of 2003. He is
currently coordinating the "Treating Traumatized Children in a Faith-Based
Setting" project under Dr. Sheryl Kataoka, where the goal is to implement
a Cognitive-Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) for
children who exhibit symptoms of PTSD as a result of being exposed to
violence in their community. He also helped coordinate a study for Dr.
Bonnie Zima and was responsible for all consenting procedures as well
as data collection. Jorge's main interests lie in healthcare issues affecting
minorities and he plans to pursue a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. (D.D.S)
